Hi Martial Man,

For a thorough understanding of the Okinawan Goju-Ryu etimology etc... have a good look at Sensei Higaonna's latest book.

(I think I referred to it is another post as well, it has an illustration of Miyagi Sensei on the front)

In this book the link between Okinawan Goju-Ryu and a Southern Chinese style of Gung-Fu (I think it is White Crane off the top of my head) is fully examined.

There is also an interesting table with comparative names for the chinese and japanese names of the kata and their meanings, such as "the Nine Hands Cutting" and funky oriental stuff like that.

It is good reading and explains a lot of things and the links between Okinawa and Goju-Ryu. If you can't get hold of this book let me know and I will see what I can get from home for the Okinawan Goju Ryu kata.

Cheers

Thanks Andrew S.

Unfortunately, I havent found much reading on this, as many authors out there tend to re-hash off a previus authpr's ideals.
